I said SHUSH!
My of my least favorite articles that I find in tech journalism is the “can everyone shut up about X topic?” What is the point. Everyone thinks that it is their calling shouted down from the heavens to take the contrarian view just to play devils advocate and grab some link bate. Don Reisinger (who I think has done a lot of great work) fell into this pit. Just look at the headline, “Can We All Just Pay Netflix and Move On?” I’m not a journalist, nor do I pretend to be, but if I was his editor this would be my feedback, “This is a douchebag link bate headline.” You don’t even need to read the article, the douchebaggery is right there at the top. However I did read the rest of the article and of course it is filled with false assumptions, fuzzy math, and just overall lacking in sense. How else could you arrive at a conclusion other than, “ouch, price hikes suck.” I’m not saying that Netflix didn’t need the price hike or it wasn’t a good business move. Simply price hikes suck. It’s hard to argue with that Don. If you want to read his steaming pile that someone miraculously paid him for, here is the linkĀ Via SlashGear
